Medical Open Enrollment is here! Are you confused about changes and options available? Join us for a free educational event featuring a panel of experts to learn: What changes you will see in Part D for medications? Learn about financial savings available by changing plans, how to prevent fraud, and extra help for low income seniors. This seminar will take place on Thursday, November 14th, from 2 to 4 PM. The Novant Health Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the Levine Senior Center on Monday, November 4th from 9 AM to 4 PM. To make an appointment, call the Center at 704.846.4654. Bring your insurance card and Novant Health will file your insurance if it’s time for your mammogram.
Living Healthy Workshop, Mondays, November 4th through December 16th, from 9:30 AM to Noon in the Community Room. This life-changing class is designed to help you problem solve your concerns with your chronic disease. Free workshop for participants 55 or older. Workshop is limited to 15. Veterans Day Celebration will be held on Monday, November 11th, from 11:45 AM ~ 1:30 PM. Veterans are invited to join the Matthews Rotary Club for lunch. Guest speaker , Ms. Paula Broadwell, will speak about the challenges and opportunities for returning veterans and their families. RSVP by Friday, November 8th, by calling 704.846.4654.
A & E Ballroom will sponsor a Moonlight Social Dance on Friday, November 15th, from 8 PM to Midnight. Newcomer and intermediate workshops from 8 to 9 PM; general dancing at 9 PM. $5 per person includes soft drinks and party snacks.
Festival of Trees at Novant Health Matthews Medical Center – The Center Holiday Tree will be a Remembrance Tree in honor of all those who have experienced cancer. Help us decorate our tree by purchasing a ribbon to honor or remember a friend and/or family member, or in memory of a loved one affected by cancer. A sample ribbon and card will be displayed in the Library, and will be available for purchase for $5 apiece. Deadline to purchase ribbons is November 15th. Tree lighting will be at 5:30 PM on November 21st. Trees will be displayed from November 21st until December 26th.
Shopping From The Heart – Give a gift that makes a difference! An event to raise money for local non-profits will take place on Saturday, November 16th, from 10 AM to 2 PM. Local non-profits will display their information and a wish list of items along with the cost. Area residents can shop the tables and purchase items in honor of a friend, family member, teacher, or in memory of a loved one. Non-profits will provide gift certificates for shoppers to give as gifts during the holiday season. Hosted by JAJ Non-Profit Resource and the Levine Senior Center.
Free Memory Screenings will be offered by Novant Health in conjunction with the Center on Tuesday, November 19th, from 10 AM to 2 PM . Qualified healthcare professionals will offer free confidential screenings that will take you through a series of tasks that can indicate whether or not additional medical follow-up is necessary. Captain’s Galley Fundraiser will be held on Tuesday, November 19th, from 3 to 9 PM at the Matthews location (1032 E. Independence Blvd). Come join us for the finest seafood, steaks, and chicken. Captain’s Galley will donate 15% of all sales to the Center when you present the coupon (at time at checkout). Funds will support the Center’s Scholarship Assistance Program.
Thanksgiving Lunch Buffet – Join us for a holiday lunch on Tuesday, November 26th, from 12 ~ 1:30 PM. Live entertainment from Marty Vanderlip. Tickets available for purchase in the Center Library ~ $12 pp. Deadline to purchase tickets is Friday, November 22nd. Menu includes: Ham, turkey, stuffing, potatoes, green bean casserole, roll, assorted desserts, and tea.
